Three facts about Hate & Fear:
- Unlike most twins in TCoLD, Hate and Fear do not look alike. The only physical trait they share are their green eyes.
- Their code names come not from the emotions they feel the most, but the emotions they instill in others. Fear is tall and intimidating, while Hate comes off as egotistical.
- Fear has taught himself to play several instruments, and Hate has a fantastic singing voice. This surprised Love, who didn’t expect the twins to be musically inclined.
My thoughts on these twins:
Both of them are muscular, athletic, and have green eyes. Fear is certainly the taller, quieter, lankier of the pair, which gives off an intimidating air. Hate prefers to insult his opponents, mess with their minds and emotions, and take them out while they’re unfocused. Fear provides the weapons, Hate executes the strategy, and both enjoy proving people wrong.
Hate’s soul mate bond with Love humbled him greatly; she got him to let the walls he built around him fall to grant her access, and the two became close fast. He’s crazy about her, and very protective, so he and Fear have given her extra training outside of Cross’ sessions. Fear has also provided his new sister-in-law with a few hunting knives and two pistols, all painted rose gold to suit her aesthetic.
Fear is a quioromantic demi-bisexual; this means that he is somewhere on both the aromantic and asexual spectrums, but he isn’t entirely sure where he stands. Also, when it comes to sexual attraction, he has felt it mostly toward men, but has experienced sexual attraction toward women. Hate and Love have been researching both romantic and sexual identities in an effort to better aid Fear in his self-discovery.
Hate sings Love to sleep every night, and he’s working on the lyrics to a love song just for her.
My original idea for these two was to make them villains, but it didn’t quite fit with the direction of my story. I prefer them as the misunderstood fraternal twins who have simply found themselves on the wrong side of a civil war–but is it actually the wrong side? Or is there no right or wrong when it comes to the issues the Poseideans are dealing with?
For those of you who don’t know, Hate and Fear are supporting characters in my trilogy Saturn Rising, which is the first installment of The Chronicles of Life & Death. The first book, Aquarius, is available now on Amazon as an e-book and paperback. You can even read it all for free with Kindle Unlimited! Learn more here.
