Three facts about Kill:
- Kill comes from a family of trained martial artists. They have headed the reservation’s defense against bandits for generations.
- Kill and Hex have just one daughter, Taynee. Her outgoing personality earned her the nickname “Bubbles”.
- After years of regular meetings, he and his mate see Princess Alice and her psychic, Ginnifer, as their own daughters. The two Cythereans are around Bubbles’ age.
My thoughts on Kill:
In my mind, Kill is more reserved and stoic. He loosens up around those he considers family, even going as far as to joke and discuss familial concerns with Alice and Gin at the start of Taurus. See, while Aquarius granted us a glimpse into the inner workings of about half the groups involved in the search, it really only focused on the Cronians and the Caelians–and even then, it was mainly about the Cronians. This entire trilogy is meant to follow the Cronians as they meet with other groups, as well as the specific group they’re meeting in that book, while slipping in vital tidbits from the other groups. Every interaction detailed is important to the overarching story; there is very little filler in The Chronicles of Life & Death. Kill’s interaction with the Cytherean leadership is one of those vital exchanges that may seem arbitrary when you first read the story, when it’s meant to showcase something we haven’t seen much of: camaraderie among angels and demons, even without an official alliance.
Kill and Hex, like most couples who grew up on the reservation, met when they were very young–however, neither one expressed any romantic interest in the other until their final year at the colonial secondary school, making them high school sweethearts. The two were already an established couple by the time they were awakened as demons. Kill was chosen by Chief Perish to lead as Headman, and during their reign Hex gave birth to Bubbles. Her arrival further fueled their desire to protect the Niitsitapi and the surrounding colonies.
Kill does have one “secret” from his mate, and it’s that he has been teaching Bubbles how to fight and scout after Hex told their daughter that she disapproved of her joining the front lines. It’s a “secret” because Bubbles begged him not to breathe a word to her mother; Kill relayed the request to Hex, who unenthusiastically agreed that it was better for her to train with him than with someone less qualified. The second Poseidean chief has been pretending not to know about their training sessions for weeks.
For those of you who don’t know, Kill is a supporting character in my trilogy Saturn Rising, which is the first installment of The Chronicles of Life & Death. The first book, Aquarius, is available now on Amazon as an e-book and paperback. You can even read it all for free with Kindle Unlimited! Learn more here.
