Here’s a character you’ll hear plenty about in Taurus, and see a lot of in the third installment of the Saturn Rising trilogy: Dream, the psychic for the main Havet Tribe!
Basic Info:
Real name: Pansy Running Wolf
Age in Taurus: 25
Height: 5’6 | Weight: 140 lbs.
Hair: soot brown, halfway down back, slight wave
Eyes: puce (dark brown and purple) with an amethyst ring
Human Race: Niitsitapi | Species: Demon
Hailing Planet: Havet
Abilities: telepathy, telekinesis
Rank: Psychic
Specialties: multitasking, extending her mental presence across great distances, detail-oriented, self-defense
Roommate: Rave
Best friends: Shade, Rush & Vanish
Mentors: Whisper & Imprint
Soul mate: Shade
Three facts about Dream:
- Dream and Love are sisters, and their soulmates are Shade and Hate, respectively. The psychic is nothing like her younger sister.
- She learned everything about her role from Whisper and Imprint, the psychics who came before her. As head psychic for the Poseideans, she is considered their leader.
- Unlike most telepathic spirits, Dream also has telekinesis and can extend her mental presence further than the average psychic. Only the Wolfe twins have her beat.
My thoughts on Dream:
When TCoLD was first conceived, Rush and Risk were the only Poseideans I had created, and the story was that Rush went rogue over a disagreement with their chief, and Risk followed… Thankfully, I’m no longer the “creative” teenager I used to be 10+ years ago. I eventually revamped Saturn Rising a few times, and in one of those iterations I intended SR to be one book, not a whole trilogy. There was too much story to get across for just one book–I didn’t think readers would be interested in an Eragon length novel–so I broke it up into three installments. One book for each major group Giovanni and the Cronians interact with: the Caelians in Aquarius, the Cythereans in Taurus, and the Poseideans in Pisces (title reveal? Title reveal.) Even though the Havet Tribe won’t have any major scenes or developments until Pisces, it will still have a proper introduction in Taurus as we dive deeper into the Zeroua Court.
Dream will be a minor player in Taurus, and a major one in Pisces. She’s the first Poseidean the Ninurta Court will have any interaction with (besides Rave, who brought Kris to them at some point during Aquarius, but nothing of note happened to warrant a scene). She’s a very no-nonsense psychic; while most are shy or hesitant, she’s blunt and bold. That’s not to say she’s needlessly rude–Dream is a very considerate psychic, trying her best not to listen in on any thoughts. Since she grew up on the reservation with most members of the main Havet Tribe–and with several of the elder members protecting them–she considers the tribe her family, even more so than the human Niitsitapi who are unrelated to them. Dream relies on common sense and facts, while Love is driven by her emotions. Her code name was actually given to her by Imprint, who accidentally wandered into her dreams using his ability. He realized that she was more of a visionary than she let show, and urged her to make her dreams a reality. No one knows what Imprint saw in Dream’s mind except for Shade.
I feel like there’s this trope in science fiction and fantasy stories where the female subordinate is in love with the male leader, and that love is unrequited. I try to take tropes like that and twist them a bit: instead of Dream being in love with Rush, it’s Rush who has feelings for her. She only ever saw him as a friend, so when he tried to pressure her into reciprocating his feelings, Dream took it as a betrayal that he not only never thought of her in a platonic light but that he would assume she would feel the same. The two are on the way to repairing their now strained friendship at the start of Pisces.
In contrast, Shade and Dream have always had an unspoken understanding about their feelings for one another; she knew that he cared for her above anyone else, and he could tell that she liked him, too, but wasn’t ready for anything beyond friendship. They only entered a relationship shortly after Scorch was recognized as their true chief, when they recognized each other as soul mates.
For those of you who don’t know, Dream is a supporting character in my trilogy Saturn Rising, which is the first installment of The Chronicles of Life & Death. The first book, Aquarius, is available now on Amazon as an e-book and paperback. You can even read it all for free with Kindle Unlimited! Learn more here.
