Day one, its just begun
And we bonded over academics and poetry
Like two birds flitting about
The same branch of a tree.
How we’re both trying to be
Healthier, striving for a better you and me.
You asked so many questions
It made my head spin
And my heart twinge
Because of the effort you were putting in.
“What’s your name? How many kids you got?
Whats your sign? Do you believe in God?”
So I bared my heart and gave honest answers,
Told you ’bout my kids and how I’m a Cancer.
We wouldn’t expand on my loss of faith
For another couple days
But I spent that weekend thinking about the things you say.
Its the third day
And I reach out to say
Hi on my way back home.
We talk work and school schedules
And music preferences and
My book and your poems.
We swapped birthdays and hobbies
And bonded over horror movies.
Then you sent me a poem you wrote
And my heart fluttered at your heartfelt words.
It all felt like way more
Than I could ever deserve.
But I played my feelings close to my chest
Because thats what I do,
And I focused instead on learning more about you.
Day four,
We were both wanting more,
So we shared pictures and private words.
Your passion left me yearning for you.
We talked about exes and the hurt they dealt,
Our triggers and the things we felt.
You wrote me another poem and we shared our dreams.
We talked baby names and the future seems
Bright for once in my life.
So I debate whether to go with the flow or fight
These feelings bubbling brewing deep inside.
So we discussed future dates and made plans for our first,
And I decided letting go wouldn’t be the worst.
The fifth day,
We spent the whole thing chatting
And when the sun set and the moon rose
We couldn’t stop yapping
So you gave me a ring
And we spoke for an hour
About family and politics
And the future near and far,
What our wedding might look like and suddenly
I realized you have this power over me
And my mind and my heart.
Will you keep building me up just to break me apart?
Or will this be the foundation of something else, a brand new start?
