Three facts about Ooze:
- His hobbies include writing songs, going on family picnics, and finding new ways to blow up bandit camps. Don’t worry, they deserve it.
- Ooze met his mate as a teen, so they started a family sooner than most others in the tribe. Their two children are already teenagers.
- Ooze wrote a song that Perish requested for his and Leer’s anniversary. It debuted at their anniversary party, performed by the creator himself.
My thoughts on Ooze:
The original plan was for Ooze to end up with Whisper–I don’t like to leave loose threads, so younger me was trying to pair as many of my characters together. As I got older, it dawned on me that it not only alienated polyamorous couples and aromantic individuals (both of which will be featured in the TCoLD universe!), but it contradicted my original intentions for the whole “soul mate bond” feature. There’s an important message I want to convey about the idea of everlasting true love, and TCoLD is my medium. Alas, once I realized that not everyone needed a romantic counterpart, I put away my Cupid cosplay and stopped playing matchmaker. Plus, I felt it was a great opportunity to incorporate humans into a story that, at one point, had the spirits alienating themselves from humans because this entire mission was a secret.
Even though I tossed the WhisperxOoze ship, I still liked the idea of an unrequited crush between them. So, as members of Wave Two and as old friends who attended the same school, it made sense for the two to be close. Ooze’s crush on Whisper is figured out almost instantly (Hello? She’s a psychic.) so she turns him down as gently as she can. Things were a bit strained between them after that until Ooze met Eliana, who would become his soul mate. Whisper met Ash around the same time. Ooze and Eliana began their family only shortly after Whisper’s eldest, Erma, was born. Charlie, Ooze’s eldest child, has a crush on her–the both are high school age, so who knows what could happen in the future? 😉
