Let’s dive into the first pair of Poseidean twins, two brothers who couldn’t be more opposite: Bruise and Thunder!
Real names: Charles “Chip” (B) and Benjamin “Ben” (T) Four Horns
Age in Taurus: 28
Height: 6’3 | Weight: B – 220 lbs. / T – 185 lbs.
Hair: thick, spider-black, wavy; B – chin-length / T – kept short
Eyes: soot brown
Human Race: Niitsitapi | Species: Demons
Hailing Planet: Havet
Abilities: B – superhuman strength / T – none
Specialties: intimidating; B – quick reflexes, tanks damage, loyal / T – tactical, intelligent, improvisation, diversions
Roommate: B – Fear / T – Vanish
Best friend: B – Fear & Hate / T – Shade & Rush
Mentor: Attack & Nail / B – Bash
Soul mate: B – none / T – Vanish
Three facts about Bruise & Thunder:
- While they come off as exact opposites–Bruise as the athletic muscle-head and Thunder as an improvisor and strategist–the twins work well together. They’re often paired for lookout duty and scouting runs.
- When Bruise discovered his super strength and Thunder didn’t, Thunder felt left out. Bruise took him fishing to cheer him up.
- Thunder and Vanish are soul mates, but their bond is a secret. Only Punish, Rush, Shade, and Dream know.
My thoughts on Bruise & Thunder:
While members of Wave One came mostly from the Piikáni and Kainai human tribes, Wave Three members were primarily found among the Niitsitapi. The original idea was that the human tribe Wave Three came from was located near Calgary and remained completely separate from the Poseideans as if it were a secret; I try to keep things as close to truth as possible, so when I researched the locations of the different reservations that fall under the Blackfoot Confederacy, I decided to base the Havet Tribes former leaders and elder members off of that. Bruise and Thunder were supposed to remain in Montana under Chief Scorch; however, once Punish became chief, he ordered all of Wave Three to follow him to Whitehorse, Yukon.
Originally, these twins were created to be part of a tragic and heart-breaking battle, pitted against one another by the chief that was and the chief that could have been. As I work on their characters, molding them and this story around them, I find there’s no way to avoid a sad story or an unhappy ending. Not everyone in TCoLD gets what they want or need, and not every villain will receive their just desserts.
Bruise had a small cameo in Aquarius, and Thunder will have a short scene in Taurus, but Pisces is where these two will either shine or be snuffed out.
For those of you who don’t know, Bruise & Thunder are supporting characters in my trilogy Saturn Rising, which is the first installment of The Chronicles of Life & Death. The first book, Aquarius, is available now on Amazon as an e-book and paperback. You can even read it all for free with Kindle Unlimited! Learn more here.
